അറബിക്കടലിനാൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട് കിടക്കുന്ന ദ്വീപുകൾ എന്ന നിലക്ക് യാത്രയാണ് ദ്വീപു ‘ജീവിതത്തിൻ്റെ അടിത്തറ. പണ്ടാണെങ്കിൽ പായകെട്ടിയ ഓടങ്ങൾ സ്വന്തമായി ഓരോ ദ്വീപുകാർക്കുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ആറ് വലിക്കുന്ന, എട്ട് വലിക്കുന്ന തോണികളും. അതൊക്കെ യന്ത്രവൽകൃത വാഹനങ്ങളായി ഇൻ്റർ ഐലൻ്റ് സർവീസിനും വൻകരയിലേക്കുള്ള യാത്രക്കും ഉപയോഗിച്ച ഇടക്കാലവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അത്തരം വാഹനങ്ങളിൽ യാത്ര കർഷനമായി നിരോധിച്ചതോടെ ഏക ആശ്രയം ഗവൺമെൻ്റ് സെക്ടറിലുള്ള കപ്പലുകളും വെസലുകളുമായി തീർന്നു. കപ്പലുകളും വെസലുകളും ആസൂത്രിതമില്ലാതെ ഓടി തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ ദ്വീപു ജീവിതം ഏറേ ദുസ്സഹമായി തീർന്നിരിക്കുകയാണ്. പ്ലാൻ ചെയ്ത് ഒരു യാത്ര നടത്താൻ കഴിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥ. അമിൻ ദ്വീപിയും മിനിക്കോയിയുമടക്കം ഏഴ് കപ്പലുകളുള്ള ലക്ഷദ്വീപിൽ വെറും ഒറ്റക്കപ്പലുകൊണ്ട് തൃപ്തിപെടേണ്ട അവസ്ഥ. കപ്പലുകൾ സമയാസമയങ്ങളിൽ ഡ്രൈ ഡോക്കിന് അയക്കാത്തത്, വിശ്രമാമില്ലാതെ കപ്പലുകൾ ഓടിക്കുന്നത്, ഇവയെല്ലാം തന്നെ യാത്രകളെ ശിഥിലമാക്കി ദ്വീപുജീവിതം ദുസ്സഹമാക്കുന്നു.
ഒരു വർഷത്തെ പ്രോഗ്രാം പണ്ടൊക്കെ ഷെഡ്യൂൾ ചെയ്ത് പുസ്തകമായി അച്ചടിച്ച് ഇറക്കിയിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ വളരെ ഹൃസ്വമായ കാലത്തേക്കുള്ള പ്രോഗ്രാമാണ് പുറത്ത് വിടുന്നത്. ഒരു ദ്വീപിൽ നിന്നും മറ്റൊരു ദ്വീപിലേക്കുള്ള യാത്ര പോലും തലേ ദിവസം വൈകി വരുന്ന വെസൽ പ്രോഗ്രാമുകളെ ആശ്രയിച്ച് വേണം പ്ലാൻ ചെയ്യാൻ. മിനിമം ഒരു ആറ് മാസത്തേക്കുള്ള പ്രോഗ്രാമെങ്കിലും പുറത്തിറക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ ദ്വീപു യാത്രകളും വൻകര പോക്കും കൃത്യതയോടെ പ്ലാൻ ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞേനേ.
നാല് കപ്പലുകൾ തുടർച്ചയായി സർവ്വീസ് നടത്തിയാൽ തന്നെ പരിഹരിക്കാവുന്നതാണ് ദ്വീപിലെ യാത്രാ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ. കപ്പലുകൾ കുറയുന്നതോടെ പലദ്വീപിലും നിത്യോപയോഗ സാധനങ്ങൾ പോലും ലഭിക്കാതെ കഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്ന അവസരങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാവാറുണ്ട്.

The islands surrounded by the Arabian Sea, travel is the foundation of island life. Earlier, each islander had their own country boats with six or eight odams. There was also an intermediate period when mechanized vehicles were used for inter-island services and travel to the mainland.
However, with the ban on traveling in such vehicles, the only option left is government sector ships and vessels. The lack of a proper schedule for these vessels has made island life miserable. A yearly program used to be scheduled and printed as a book. Now, only a short-term program is released.
Traveling between islands, even planning a trip to the mainland, depends on the vessel schedule, which is often released at the last minute. Releasing a program for at least six months would help plan island travel and mainland trips accurately.
The travel issues in the islands can be resolved if four ships operate continuously. With fewer ships, many islands struggle to access essential commodities.
Travel is a fundamental right of citizens. If we had democracy and participatory governance, we could have intervened to address our needs. As the authority responsible for addressing our needs, we request you to take necessary action, considering this a basic requirement of islanders.
